Getting into fall spirit

With the Sweater Weather Tag

StephJ at Scale Simple challenged me and nine other bloggers to answer the nineteen questions of the Sweater Weather Tag. It seemed like a fun way to reteach myself to appreciate autumn after the heavy rains that flooded the French Riviera – including my city – yesterday. Thanks StephJ!

Fall favourites

Favourite candle scent: peach, cassis, melon, leafy green, rose, iris, muguet, jasmine, musk, amber, vanilla, sandalwood. It’s not that I can’t make up my mind, I’m just listing the ingredients from the product page of the Glade “With Love” candle that is currently burning on my desk. It seems to be the only scented candle we have and I do like the smell.

Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate: hot chocolate, without hesitation. I used to drink a lot of milk – cold milk, cold milk with Banania or Nesquik, or warm milk with Banania. I don’t like coffee by itself, I only drink when I’m in zombie mode after a bad night and I have to had as much milk to make it drinkable. I don’t have the same aversion for tea but it can be hard to find varieties that I like – my favourite kind being cardamom tea.

What is the best fall memory you have? fall in Montreal was amazing. I liked winter even better and had many times to fight the urge to just dive in the snow outside my building… I can’t believe my current city never gets any snow – it falls for one days or two but melts as soon as it hits the ground. Sorry, I digress. But yeah – arriving in Montreal, discovering Concordia University, making new friends, and those gorgeous tree leaves – definitely my best fall memory.

Best fragrance for fall: I don’t wear any perfume – or maybe just twice a year – so…

Favourite Thanksgiving food: I never had a Thanksgiving dinner as we don’t celebrate it in France but I suspect it would be pecan pie – or probably any kind of pie. I’m not sure how typical it is but I absolutely love pecan pie, as long as it isn’t too sweet. I’d love to have a Thanksgiving meal some day – I’ll try anything except for sauerkraut.

Most worn sweater: a black sweater from Concordia University. I have had it for five years and wore it so often that it now has holes in it – thanks, in part, to my cats – but I cherish it more than any other piece of clothing. Well, almost – there’s a dress I can’t way to fit in again…

Football games or jumping in leaf piles? I’m not a football fan, whether you’re talking about soccer or American football, so I’ll go with the leaf pile.

Favourite type of pie: we already established I love pecan pie, but is it my favourite? Hard to say. I love chocolate pie, apple pie, mushroom pie, mushroom pie, mushr… Oh, sorry. I crave it now. It’s been so long! My late aunt did an amazing mushroom pie, I can still taste it. I should try making one someday.

What is autumn weather like where you live? mild but brutal. Today, the sky is blue, it’s sunny, and I can go out without a jacket; it feels more like the end of summer than the start of fall. Yet yesterday, it rained all day, leading to floods in the whole area; even when the rain calmed down, it was windy and cold. Heavy rains are a major issue here and roads can become river beds in a matter of minutes. It can be really dangerous so it’s better to stay inside when it’s raining!

Don’t believe me? Check out what happened this weekend: French Riviera Flash Floods Leave at Least 16 Dead, or what happened at my former university three years ago: Two students killed in flash flood.

Which makeup trend do you prefer, dark lips or winged liner? I love winged liner although I’m terrible at it. Dark lips only work on Dark Willow and Vampire Willow. Okay, maybe on a few other people/characters.

What song really gets you into the fall spirit? I didn’t mean to pick the same song as StephJ but the only one that comes to my mind is Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends”.

Is pumpkin spice worth the hype? I really wouldn’t know. What are you even supposed to do with it?

Favourite fall TV show: strangely, I think of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer because of its awesome Halloween episodes. “Fear, Itself” is probably my favourite because of the tiny fear demon and the last scene:

Giles: Oh, bloody hell. The inscription.
Buffy: What’s the matter?
Giles: I should’ve translated the Gaelic inscription under the illustration of Gachnar.
Buffy: What’s it say?
Giles: Actual size.

Skinny jeans or leggings? nothing “skinny” sounds appealing so let’s say leggings, but only with appropriate clothing – those things aren’t pants but tights!

Combat boots or Uggs? definitely combat boots, especially with the above. There are so many different styles and you can wear them with anything – although maybe not in every situation. I can’t stand the sight of Uggs anyway!

Halloween – yay or nay? I like the concept but never took part in a Halloween celebration I really enjoyed. I don’t think it’s really widespread in France. Maybe I’ll do something this year, I still have four weeks to find a party to attend and decide on an outfit to wear.

Fall mornings or evenings? mornings, it’s better with sunlight – and warmer.

What do you think about Black Friday? I’m glad we don’t do that in France and I probably won’t ever take part in it. I really don’t understand it, actually.

One fall 2015 trend you love: I don’t think there’s really any clothing or makeup trend I like. I looked at hairstyle trends but didn’t find any I particularly liked. Lately I have been thinking about cutting my hair for a shoulder-length, moderately wavy style inspired by Natalie Morales’s haircut as Lucy on Parks and Recreation (a few pics).

  5. Thank yo for the Tag. I am going to do a fall post, thanks to your tag. I hope it is okay if I don’t actually follow these questions because a lot of them don’t actually apply to me. I will work in the one I can and go with a Japan slant! You have also helped me decide on this weeks travel trinket. Thank you! Going to get started now!
